Vision & Message

Invitation to Intimacy

From Enslavement to Covenant ·

The Old Testament reveals to us a form or pattern of our spiritual journey from spiritual enslavement to spiritual Covenant with God. These figurative typologies (temple, priesthood, sacrifice) point toward the spiritual realities of the New Testament. They are “a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things …” (Heb. 10:1). Just as God freed Israel from its slavery in Egypt, so too God has freed believers from spiritual enslavement to the sinful world.

Yet God’s purpose in setting us free is never undirected or purposeless. The purpose of our spiritual freedom in Christ is to know Him. Through knowing Christ, we are freed to joyfully make Him known, both with our words and our lives. It is the very reason Christ set us free and brought us unto Himself:

“…I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now, therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people… And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”Ex. 19:4–6
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…”1 Peter 2:9–10

God lovingly adopted Israel, delivered them, and brought them to Sinai to enter into Covenant with them. In the same way, God has spiritually set us free from this sinful, broken world and brought us to Himself, so that we might become the recipients of a better covenant.

“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also the Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.”Heb. 8:6

Through the grace of His New Covenant, He is reshaping, rebuilding and reforming us into His image, so that we might become His City on a Hill: the City of God in whose midst God Himself dwells. As His living Church, we are now that dwelling place of God on the earth.

“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.”Rev. 21:3

Dedication and Calling

Presenting Ourselves to God ·

God knows that our best is never good enough. We are not saved by our works, but by His. Even so, through salvation, God graciously invites us into His own purposes, so that through relationship with Him we might fully learn to participate in all that He is, thinks, says and does. This is the vision and mission of His Church, the living community Christ is building — a uniquely built building, for it is built out of stones that were once rejected.

“the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.”1 Peter 2:7

As our perfect Redeemer, Christ experienced the sorrow of human betrayal and rejection. He is therefore not unsympathetic to our own sufferings.

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”Heb. 4:15

As followers of Christ, we learn this same obedience — to trust God in our own human weakness. This is what Christ Himself told the apostle Paul:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”2 Cor. 12:9

Stubborn self-reliance resists God, for it is rooted in human pride; whereas humble trust welcomes God to draw near. This is how Christ builds His Church: through weak, submitted stones, rejected by the world but chosen by God for His glorious purposes.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”Eph. 2:10

Through Christ, we have received a new identity: His beloved, His chosen ones, His adopted ones. As adopted children of God, we learn to live all of life out of the new spiritual posture of resting in the Father’s loving arms — as John the Beloved learned through “leaning back on Jesus’ breast” (John 13:23).

This is more than a physical posture — it is a spiritual posture of intimate, vulnerable, trusting surrender. This is our call. This is our surrender. In this identity we are invited to present ourselves back to Him as joyful living sacrifices (Rom. 12:1).
